The Cross Bay Half-Marathon returns: Will you beat the Bay?
An iconic charity half-marathon that takes runners across the sands of Morecambe Bay is set to make a comeback this summer after a decade-long hiatus.
Local charity CancerCare is excited to announce the return of the Cross Bay Half-Marathon on Saturday 4th July 2026. This unique 13.1-mile route snakes from the start at Arnside Promenade, across Morecambe Bay, towards the finish line at Cark Airfield. Runners will be guided throughout by expert local King’s Guide to the Sands, Michael Wilson.
The challenge, last held in 2016, is the only half-marathon in the world that crosses a tidal bay.
There are various ticket options available, depending on participants’ preference for fundraising. A sponsorship ticket, which requires a minimum of £150 in fundraising for CancerCare, costs £55. A self-funded ticket costs £100 and does not require any fundraising.
Both ticket options include race registration, a finisher’s medal, an event T-shirt, free parking and access to the exclusive Runner’s Village at Cark Airfield.
CancerCare’s Deputy Head of Fundraising, Kat Michaelas, said: “We’re thrilled to announce the return of CancerCare’s Cross Bay Half-Marathon, one of our most iconic and eagerly awaited events.
“This truly bucket-list challenge is like no other and remains the only half-marathon in the world to cross a tidal bay. The route leads runners across the legendary sands of Morecambe Bay, where every step helps support local people affected by cancer and bereavement.
“Join CancerCare for the fundraising challenge of the summer. Places are limited, so we recommend booking early to secure your spot. Do you have what it takes to beat the Bay?
“We encourage all prospective runners to have a good level of fitness due to the challenging terrain. However, CancerCare’s team will be happy to advise anyone considering entering.”
