Why the UAE Reopening is Great News for Long-Haul Travellers

If you’ve been holding off booking that dream holiday because of the uncertainty surrounding the Middle East over the past few weeks, there’s some really positive news.

With the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) no longer advising against travel to the UAE, I’m already seeing confidence return, and my clients are feeling much more comfortable about booking those long-awaited long-haul holidays again.

The UAE isn’t just an incredible holiday destination in its own right, it’s also one of the world’s busiest travel hubs. Airports like Dubai and Abu Dhabi are where thousands of UK travellers change planes every day on their way to destinations including the Maldives, Mauritius, Australia, Bali, Malaysia and the Far East.

For those of us in the North West, this is especially important. Many of my clients fly from Manchester Airport because it’s so convenient, but there simply aren’t direct flights from Manchester to many long-haul destinations, instead, airlines such as Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways make it possible to reach almost anywhere in the world with just one easy connection through Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Doha.

When the regional tensions first developed, it was completely understandable that people became nervous. I had lots of conversations with clients who were worried about whether flights would operate, if fuel prices would rise, or whether airlines would introduce extra fuel surcharges.

Thankfully, those concerns are beginning to ease.

With the Strait of Hormuz reopening and the FCDO updating its travel advice, I’m seeing far more confidence from both airlines and travellers. Flights are operating as normal, and people are once again looking ahead to booking holidays rather than waiting to see what happens.

In fact, enquiries for 2026 and even 2027 holidays have really picked up over the last few weeks.

Many people are planning those special trips well in advance, whether that’s a honeymoon in the Maldives, an adventure around Australia, a family holiday in Bali or a luxury escape to Mauritius, booking early not only gives you more choice of flights and hotels, but often secures the best prices too.

One thing I always remind my clients is not to let headlines make their decisions for them, the news quite rightly reports major events, but it doesn’t always reflect what’s actually happening for holidaymakers on the ground or in the air.
