A time for giving

We have many local charities and organisations that help and support the local community all year round, but Christmas really is a time for giving, to give back to those who are less fortunate. Here are some giving ideas.

St John’s Hospice is a local charity supporting patients and families in North Lancs and the South Lakes since 1986. We care for our community via our In-Patient Unit, Day Hospice & our Hospice at Home team where we visit patients in the comfort of their own home to offer specialist palliative care at the end of life. Our amazing local community funds a whopping 2/3 of our running costs!

If you would like to help St John’s this festive season, you can buy our Christmas cards, make a donation to our Light Up A Life Appeal or give in other ways, please visit our website.

Give a Christmas Gift to save lives! For over ten years Wolfwood has been caring for wildlife casualties, local rescue dogs & horses. It’s costly to keep and rehome the horses. Not everyone can deal with the breeds and problems of the many “least wanted” dogs. The much needed rewarding wildlife work rarely generates donations. Wolfwood’s future is immensely dependant on a regular income. Please, please consider donating or even better, setting up a standing order. Thank you.

The Cornerstone, part of Lancaster Methodist Church, is a community hub and cafe. Our cafe serves freshly cooked, hearty food at reasonable prices, and is an inclusive and accessible venue with a fully equipped changing place. We support our community through partnership with the Council for Voluntary Services, counselling services and various mental health support groups. Our commitment to justice involves us in supporting ‘City of Sanctuary’, Morecambe Bay Credit Union, and Morecambe Bay Foodbank. In the period leading up to Christmas, please join us for our Fairtrade Christmas Fayre on December 1st, bring in some goodies for our Foodbank collection, or join us for carols and free gift-wrapping on December 20th.

We provide three days of emergency food to people in crisis. Over Christmas, we work hard to help families who are struggling so please donate to us via our supermarket donation points at Sainsbury’s Lancaster and Morecambe, Asda Lancaster and Tesco Carnforth. You can take part in our Reverse Advent Calendar (see Facebook and our website for more information) or you can just donate some non perishable Christmas treats to us so that we can help people who are facing a difficult Christmas this year. Thank you!

We always require sleeping bags, socks, hats, gloves but financial donations help us to support local homeless people at Christmas and throughout the year. 01524 842008
