Arndale Morecambe Bay and owner NewRiver establishes first charity partnership with the Trussell Trust

NewRiver, the owner of Arndale Morecambe Bay is pleased to announce its first corporate charity partnership with the Trussell Trust, an organisation that aims to end hunger and poverty in the UK.

The Trussell Trust supports more than 1,200 food banks across the UK to provide a minimum of three days’ nutritionally-balanced emergency food to people in need, as well as providing support to help people resolve the challenges they face. In 2018-19, food banks in the Trussell Trust’s network provided 1.6 million emergency food parcels to people in crisis. More than 550,000 of these went to children.

Arndale Morecambe Bay and NewRiver will join a number of leading UK retailers and consumer goods companies who already support the Trussell Trust. Through the partnership, the Arndale Morecambe Bay will provide financial support from fundraising activities, be home to a new donation drop-off point, and support with storage space, raising awareness and creating opportunities to recruit volunteers.

Annette Smith, Manager of the Morecambe Foodbank, said: “We were delighted to learn that the ongoing relationship we have had with the Arndale Centre is growing with more engagement from New River its parent company.

In these times when families and individuals are facing increasing financial pressure to keep food on the table, we to, along with other charities are also challenged enabling our activities take place with much needed food and financial donations.

This formalization of our ongoing partnership will allow us to develop and do so much more in our community so that together we can ensure, to the best of ability, nobody should go hungry.

Already we have benefited from Storage space, fund raising activities and the Input of the Arndale Staff who have been very supportive of our work in many different ways over the last two years.

In 2018, the Foodbank distributed over 7000 parcels, and so far this year are seeing a steady 10% increase. It takes over 80 volunteers, 60 tonnes of food and much more support from our community and local business who support us to achieve this.”

Craig Allen, Centre Manager at Arndale Morecambe Bay said: “We are delighted to continue this partnership with the Morecambe Foodbank, which works tirelessly to support people in crisis. This is an exciting opportunity for Arndale Morecambe Bay and, given our position in the heart of the community, we are uniquely placed to help the Morecambe Foodbank raise awareness and support those in need in Morecambe. The partnership will also present our own staff with opportunities to volunteer and provide practical help, bringing us even closer to the community we serve.”
