Baylight ‘23 Photo Competition Winners Announced

Morecambe Sparkle CIC, organisers of the recent Baylight ‘23 light art festival in  Morecambe have announced the winners of their photography competition which invited  visitors of the event to submit their best photos via social media.

The competition attracted over 100 entries, but judges have selected two lucky winners to  receive some very special prizes. Judges County Councillor Charlie Edwards and local  photographer and Morecambe Sparkle Committee member Johnny Bean chose a beautiful picture of a silhouetted couple kissing in front of Chris Plant’s artwork Harmonic Portal by  Jamie-Lee Buttershaw as their overall favourite. Jamie posted his image on his  Instagram account @altfocus_photography. The second place winning spot went to  Caroline Smith of Lancaster, whose playful image of her dog Squeal posing in pyjamas  under one of the OGE Groups Angels of Freedom charmed. Jamie wins a hospitality  package for 4 people at a Morecambe FC EFL League 1 game this season worth over  £300, donated by Morecambe FC and Caroline wins a £50 meal/drinks voucher for The  Morecambe Hotel.

The judges were highly impressed by the quality of entries and also picked out several  other photos for special commendation. “Highly Commended” plaudits went out to Liz  Withey, for her shot of children engaging with Illumaphonium by Michael Davis; Hannah  Tattersall for her collage of brightly coloured Angels of Freedom; Tarnia Elsworth for her  abstract image of Tom Lambert’s Portal of Reflection; Jamie-Lee Buttershaw’s image of a solitary young figure engrossed in Juan Fuentes’ Kinetic Perspective; Spencer Ross’s  mesmerising image of the same artwork and Keith Stanley’s creative shot of Aqualux by  Philip Holmes.

Baylight ‘23 took place in Morecambe over 3 nights in February, attracting thousands of  visitors from around the UK. The event was funded from the Lancashire Economic  Recovery and Growth fund by Lancashire County Council, with additional funding from  Morecambe Town council, Morecambe BID and with support from Lancaster City Council.  Baylight will return in 2024.
