CancerCare Santa Dash and the new Festive 5K run

Runners of all ages can join CancerCare Santa Dash and new Festive 5K run

Fully grown ‘Santas’ and their little helpers can sign up for this year’s CancerCare Santa Dash and Festive 5K run.

The ‘Festive 5K’ element of CancerCare’s Santa Dash is new for 2018 and will give keen runners an opportunity to run in and around the city of Lancaster on Sunday, November 25.

Adults, children and groups including schools, colleges, businesses and other organisations are being encouraged to enter the Santa Dash and Festive 5K which will set off from Market Square in

Lancaster as part of the Lancaster BID Christmas Lights Switch On.

Registration for the Santa Dash and Festive 5K will start at 1pm. The warm-up will start at 1.45pm in Market Square and will get everyone in the mood for dashing around the city at 2pm. Last year’s warm-up was a spectacular event which saw scores of Santas – large and small – dancing and getting in the groove.

The Santa Dash is a one-mile route and is perfect for children and people who want a shorter challenge. There’s also a special prize for the child who raises the most sponsorship money – the opportunity to switch on the Christmas lights.

The Festive 5K will follow a route around the city and along the River Lune and will be perfect for people who prefer a longer run.

Christmas can be a difficult time for people facing cancer so CancerCare is keen to encourage as many people as possible to show their support by signing up for the event.

Funds raised will be used to enable CancerCare to keep providing free therapeutic support such as counselling, aromatherapy massage and therapy groups for people affected by cancer over the festive season and into the New Year. The charity’s services are also available for relatives and friends of people with cancer.

The day of the Santa Dash and Festive 5k will also feature various fun Christmas-themed activities hosted by Lancaster BID from 3pm.

Richard Cogger, event organiser from CancerCare, said: “We’re excited to introduce our new Festive 5K and hope runners from far and wide will take part.

“The Festive 5K and Santa Dash will be enjoyable challenges for children and adults. Taking part will be a special way of supporting people with cancer in the local community at Christmas.”

The Santa Dash and Festive 5K event is kindly sponsored by FGH Security Ltd and Holden’s Solicitors and supported by 3-1-5 Gym and Lancaster Business Improvement District (BID).

Entry is £5 for children, including a Santa suit and £10 for adults, including a suit. The price for a family of four is £25.
