Celebrate Father’s Day by walking the Bay with CancerCare
CancerCare’s iconic Cross Bay Walk returns this summer, poignantly taking place on Father’s Day.
CancerCare North Lancashire and South Cumbria, a local charity that provides support to adults and children affected by cancer, is hoping supporters will join them for this eight-mile walk across Morecambe Bay on Sunday 21st June.
The Cross Bay Walk will leave at 10:30am from Arnside Promenade, finishing approximately four hours later at Grange-over-Sands. Participants are recommended to have a reasonable level of fitness, and children and dogs are welcome to join.
Hundreds of people are expected to make the famous trip across the Bay, which is to be led by King’s Guide to the Sands, Michael Wilson.
CancerCare’s 2024 and 2025 Cross Bay Walks both raised over £20,000, with the former raising a record-breaking total of over £23,500.
As the Cross Bay Walk will be held on Father’s Day, this could be the ideal opportunity to walk in memory of someone special, fundraising in their honour.
Last year, Kendal-based supporter Petulia Rigg and her family raised a total of £1,726 for CancerCare.
They took on the Cross Bay Walk in memory of a beloved husband, dad and granddad, George, who sadly died in 2024. Each individual family member raised money, combining their efforts to reach the incredible final total.
“My granddaughter initially had the idea of walking the Bay together as a family whilst raising some money for CancerCare,” Petulia explained. “We’ve had amazing support from CancerCare in the past. We wanted to give something back and raise some money to help them carry on doing the incredible work they do.”
Claire Mason, Head of Fundraising and Marketing at CancerCare, said: “We are so excited to be enjoying the iconic Cross Bay Walk again this summer. The event is one of our flagship fundraisers – it’s one of the best days in our calendar!
“Walking on Father’s Day is extra special; consider walking as a dad, with a dad, or in memory of a much-loved dad. We’d love for you to be part of one of the biggest charity walks of the summer, raising funds to support children and adults in our community facing cancer or bereavement.”
