How to be organised

When it comes to organising, I feel there are two types of people in this world – Organised people, and, those who want to be organised.

It’s ok to be either of course, but if you feel you need a bit of organisation in your life and you’re not sure where to start, then look no further. This article is full of tips and tricks that will help you put some sort of order into your life and help you feel more in control.

I’m no Mrs Hinch, but I sure do know a tip or two on how to stay organised. From staying on top of the housework to finding the time to email your loyal customers, here are my top 5 tips and tricks to help you feel in control and super organised.

Have one calendar/diary for everything:

I learnt this one the hard way, having a diary for business and one for personal, is too much. Having everything in one place, means only needing to look in one place. Simple right?

Break down your tasks over the week:

Ok, so it’s Monday, you have a busy week ahead and you’re wondering how you’re going to fit it all in. Ever heard of the phrase ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day”?

If you have 14 important tasks you need to do that week, break it down. 14 tasks divided by 7 days = a manageable 2 tasks a day.  Feeling a bit more in control?

Give certain tasks its own time and day:

There are certain tasks that need to be done every week, whether we like it or not. If the idea of a tidy house is something you want to aim for, then give certain tasks certain days. Staying on top of housework doesn’t need to take up your whole day or week, it’s just needs to get done. For example, every Wednesday dust, every Thursday mop, every Friday tackle the ironing pile.

Get your stop clocks at the ready!

Sometimes, there is just no escaping a busy day, when we have a few too many tasks to do all at the same time, they all deserve the same AMOUNT of time. I find if I have 5 small tasks that need to be done that day, whether that be house chores or work, I time myself and give them all the same dedicated time. I’d rather finish 5 tasks at 90% each than 1 task at 100% (Maybe that’s just me) but I find this little tip really works, I also find that I get the task in hand done quicker and usually finish what I need to do when I get my head down.

Keeping on top of your outgoings:

This is one thing I get asked about a lot, and one I have achieved the answer for many times for businesses that have come to me for help.The easiest way I find to stay in control of your cash flow, whether it’s for your business, or for your personal money, is through the wonderful world of excel! I have had a spreadsheet for years to control my money and I would be lost without it, when it comes to your personal money, its simple.

Income at the top – Bills and outgoings in the middle – Spare at the bottom (Take the incoming away form the outgoings)

It might not be the figure you want but it will be an honest one! So, there we have it, my top 5 organising tips and tricks! Go give at least one a go and see how it makes you feel.
