Join our hunt for the biggest, most beautiful eggs in Lancaster

Lancaster will soon be home to The Big Beautiful Egg Hunt, an Easter event set to charm and delight people of all ages.

The Big Beautiful Egg Hunt organised by CancerCare will feature 13 stunning, hand-crafted egg sculptures by different artists and will take place during the school half-term break from March 24 to April 2.

Intrepid egg hunters can follow CancerCare’s art trail in shop windows around Lancaster City Centre and all participants will be rewarded with a chocolate treat and the opportunity to win some fantastic prizes. There will also be a chance to buy the artists’ exquisite eggs in a special auction after the Easter holidays.

Chas Jacobs, an acclaimed artist who is well known for his scenes of Lancaster and the surrounding area, is painting one of the large eggs to show his support for people affected by cancer. His egg will be on display in The Borough Hotel and Gastro Pub which has made CancerCare its Charity of the Year for 2018.

Other leading and emerging artists from across the North West of England and Wales include Yuki Aruga whose egg will be on show in the window of Joseph and Co, Ben Ark at Banks Lyon shoe shop, Zoey Devaney at Pizza Margherita (which has also made CancerCare its Charity of the Year), Steve Wilson at Waterhouse, Anna Saczek at Renes and Firths, Helen Smyth at Buccelli’s, Hannah Postlethwaite at Photo Baby, Huma Ashad at Guys and Dolls Hair Boutique, Vanessa Lamb at Bridal Collection and Catherine Marshall at Arteria.

CancerCare’s Jewellery Group members are also creating an egg which will be on display at Silvertree Jewellery.

A spokesperson for CancerCare said: “We would like to thank all of the wonderful artists, businesses, community groups, sponsors and supporters who are involved in this project.

“We are using the event to help raise awareness of our Children and Young Person’s (CYP) Service.

“We offer free talking therapies and bereavement counselling for young people of all ages affected by cancer and other life limiting conditions.

“Our existing CYP service is currently being further developed. Working with a group of young volunteers from the Lancaster and Morecambe area, we are looking at ways to enhance this service such as providing more services in the community and online.

“Our Big Beautiful Egg Hunt is perfect for children and young people as it will be fun and engaging. The stunning pieces of artwork are sure to impress and inspire.”

The Big Beautiful Egg Hunt is free and donations would be most welcome.
