The largest art exhibition in the North West

The Milnthorpe Art Exhibition is now in it’s 27th year and is run by the Milnthorpe Men’s Forum for the benefit of local charities.

Our chosen charity for 2016 is the Springfield Hostel in Kendal. A long running, local charity set up to counter Domestic Abuse. Last year we donated £7500 to our charities.

For artists, the selection process is rigorous and usually only about 50 per cent of paintings submitted are displayed for sale. For the buying public, it is a very good opportunity to purchase fairly-priced, original art from accomplished artists with the knowledge that any commission goes to good causes in the community. Louis Morton the Chairman of our Art Exhibition is delighted to welcome Frances & Geoff as this year’s Guest Artists

Featured Artist – Frances Winder

Frances has lived in Kendal for 15 years. Inspired by the Lake District in all its facets, she is moved by colour, mood and light. Using paint in a free and boldstyle, exploring the surface effects in a painting, trying to achieve more significance than realism in the work. This can lead to more abstract pieces sometimes.

Featured Artist – Geoff Taylor

“I was born in Lancaster a long time ago, we moved to Sheffield for a time before returning north to Arnside 19 years ago.

I received commissions for pen and ink illustrations for children’s books for authors including Michelle Paver and Cliff McNish.

I have always painted wildlife whenever I had some free time, wolves mostly. Such as inspiration from the local story of “The Last Wolf” in England, reputedly killed at Humphrey Head, Cumbria in the 14th Century.

Now semi retired I have found a new passion in the Lake District fells and have been painting landscapes. The size of my painting brushes have always been fine, finer and finest which accounts for the detail in my paintings. Some say I paint every hair on a wolf! maybe I do!”
