Multi Award Winning Comedy Show Comes to Lancaster
The multi-award winning physical comedy show ‘Police Cops’ by The Pretend Men crashes into Lancaster’s Nuffield Theatre on Friday 3rd February at 8pm.
This hilarious satirical comedy show sends up 1970s and 80s American ‘cop buddy’ films to perfection. Straight-laced rookie cop Jimmy Johnson is out to avenge his brother’s death with his police partner Harrison. The pair begin digging and soon unearth the soily secrets that the case holds. Full of ridiculous clichés and larger-than life caricatures, ’Police Cops’ is a cinematic joyride, speeding down Adventure Avenue in a souped-up squad car.
The cast of The Pretend Men, who formed in 2014, create highly playful performances which combine inventive physical storytelling with their own brand of comedic text. Parody and satire are centred at the heart of their productions, where they integrate with dynamic stagecraft, supercharged physical theatre and cinematic style. Imaginative concepts, exhilarating texts and musical flare; The Pretend Men create vibrant productions that leave a lasting impression on their audiences.
Artistic Director Nathan Parkinson, who devised and performs in the production, comments: “We’ve been totally overwhelmed by the critical response and public reaction to ‘Police Cops’. Our aim was to create a high quality piece of theatre, sophisticated in both it’s comedy style and theatricality”.
The show has won numerous fringe awards and achieved sell out performances at London’s Soho Theatre, Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2016, The Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2016 and The Cape Town Fringe 2016.
