The NEW Bigger Hala Pet Store

Pop in and visit the store that is managed by Steve Atkin and run with the assistance of his daughter Elise, Wife Julie, and a part time member of staff Sarah, they look forward to helping you.

Steve took over Hala Pet Store 6 years ago, which has proved a very popular pet resource for people living all over Lancaster, stocking an extensive range of specialist pet foods and accessories, so many the shelves were stacked high. Now, they are very excited to announce the opening of the new part of the shop which is home to tropical and cold water fish, guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, and many different types of birds.

Guinea Pig

Steve himself is an animal lover, not surprisingly, his own Senegal Parrot (Sammy) lives in the shop and is very well behaved, even posing for a photo. Steve’s passion for animals means that not only is the shop great for buying everything you need for your pets, the staff are on hand to offer advice about all sorts of pet related questions. Being a local family business Hala Pet Shop is able to adapt their products and services to the demands of local people and last year they started to offer a free local delivery service, perfect for those who are too busy working to even pop to the shops. They can regularly drop off pet food at your house, just when you need it, to a schedule that suits your pet.

Steve explained, “My first pet was guinea pigs, I was probably 8 years old, from memory they were a tri colour and I remember being fascinated by their characters (squeaking for food), we also had a family tabby cat. After the guinea pigs came gerbils which were fun to watch and I can recall building hides and obstacles for then to burrow and dig through. However I have always been interested in the wildlife in general especially birds which lead to keeping foreign birds in an aviary which I constructed in the garden, this has remained my main passion, but I also had tropical fish and a Golden Labrador (Max) hamsters, rabbits and cats.

“ I decided to look for a business (to be my own boss) after spending 25 years working in an office environment, Hala Pet Stores was available, which would satisfy my keen interest in pets, my hobby if you will, and so I decided to take over the shop, a big step as I had never run my own business, but had experience of working in a commercial environment so I had a good understanding of how a business runs. After taking over the business we designed the logo and re branded the shop.

We had struggled for space, so we were limited to the variety of pets we could keep in the existing shop. Now with the new shop/extension it has doubled our floor space which we have dedicated the new extension entirely to keeping all our Pets in much larger environment, we have continued with the same range of rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, birds, cold water fish , the only new addition is tropical fish.

I have a passion for pets and just by being in this environment talking to customers, discussing their pets needs welfare and wellbeing and of course if I can help and advise on our products which will benefit and enrich the pets life this gives me a great deal of satisfaction.
