The Pottery Basement – Celebrating 50 Years
Local business owners David Bradshaw and his daughter Helen, are celebrating 50 years of The Pottery Basement.
“It all started in 1966 when my uncle Ken Warburton opened The Pottery Basement in the cellar of 2 – 4 Skipton Street, Morecambe.” said David
“It was originally for his wife Joyce to run, but it became so busy he sold his bookmaking business above the shop to Ladbrokes so he could concentrate on the increasingly busy pottery basement shop. He then retired at 65 and moved to Mallorca Spain.
“I bought the property and business off him in 1988 and moved my family over from Bolton. The best move I have ever made, never looked back.
In 2006 Ladbrokes relocated to Euston road and I decided to move up from the cellar to the shop on Skipton street. This proved a great success and after the refurbishment of the new shop we saw a dramatic increase in sales. Being upstairs meant we were more accessible to the public.
We have also built up a very successful wholesale business supplying pubs, restaurants, residential homes and hotels.
Pop along to The Pottery Basement in Morecambe where you will find a very large selection of plates, cups, teapots, bowls, dinner sets, place mats, coasters, glasses, crystal sets, gifts and so much more. We would like to take this opportunity of thanking all our customers for their support over the last 50 years and hope the shop will still be trading in another 50 years.
