Lancaster Charity Launches Challenging Campaign

A  Lancaster-based youth charity is marking its tenth anniversary by launching a challenge to the community it serves.

Lancashire Youth Challenge is encouraging everyone across the city and county to rise to their own personal challenges reflecting their passions, goals and spirit of adventure.

Funds raised will support LYC’s life-changing work which has benefitted around 3,000 young people across Lancashire since the charity was formed.

“The start of the year is the ideal time for people to take on our 10 Challenges campaign and help a local charity at the same time,” said LYC chief executive, Guy Christiansen.

People are invited to choose their own 10 Challenges, one for each year of LYC, which can be big, small, creative or active. Suggestions include trying 10 new things, visiting 10 new places, capturing 10 meaningful images, reading 10 books in 10 days or going on 10 bike rides.

Those taking part can set their own timeline and are being encouraged to share their story with family, friends and colleagues and fundraise via https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/10challenge-10years

Among the first to take on 10 Challenges is LYC’s project facilitator, Isobel Breeze who is planning to climb 10 Wainwrights in the Lake District in a day.

And LYC’s new patron  – Lancaster Girls Grammar School – has pledged to support the campaign too.

Former pupil, Sylvie Maxwell is now an LYC trustee and is encouraging all current students to take on their own 10 Challenges which will earn them points towards the school’s newly launched Rose Award.

““Many of our students have benefitted from the outstanding support provided by Lancashire Youth Challenge over the last 10 years,” said LGGS headteacher, Chris Beard.

“LYC’s work has had a transformative impact on our young people, helping them build confidence, resilience, and ambition. It is a privilege for our school to become a patron of this remarkable charity, and we are excited to involve the whole school community in supporting LYC’s inspiring mission by undertaking the 10 Challenges Campaign.”

The past decade has seen LYC go from strength to strength with its year-round programme of active movement and emotional wellbeing programmes, creative arts activities, nature-based projects and outdoor expeditions for young people across Lancaster district, Preston and around Lancashire.

Such has been its success that the charity received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2021 and its work was outlined to the King when he visited Lancaster Castle last year.
